I ♥ Your American Style: Ricky Lauren

As you know, I always have a style icon lurking in my head.  Whether real or fictional, alive or dead, man or woman, having someone to inspire me always makes getting dressed more fun. Lately I’ve been obsessing over women with classic American style, particularly from the 70’s. The simplicity of casual sportswear with a bit of grooviness like oversized sunglasses, flared jeans or muted colors make American style look sexier than it has in other decades. My latest discovery in this vein is Ricky Lauren. I have seen some of these pictures before, but never have they spoken to me so clearly.

I think it is such a fun idea to be inspired by different style icons!

I especially love the tuxedo pic and the last one, at the beach…so effortless and still elegant and sexy! I love her style!

I have discovered and started following your blog only recently, it is great, so inspiring!!!
    Congrats!!

That's funny! I've never come across anyone else that does this besides me! Each season I choose someone, or a period to emulate. For several summer seasons it was Jackie O. In Capri and Ron Galella photos from the 70's. When I went to Provence I wanted to channel the famous Ruth Orkin photo American Girl In Italy http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/american-girl-italy-60-years-later-221005987.html. To me she epitomized beautiful, ripe summer sensuality.

It's so much fun to see who or what you'll be next, isn't it?

I'm working my way through your book now and it has made me love 70s style, something I otherwise never would have thought about. Its amazing how sexy and glamorous simple muted, menswear clothes can look.
