I know. As chic as she is you probably feel you don’t ever have to see another style icon pic of Jackie O as long as you live. I’m with you on that. But now that I have gotten so into riding, and what to wear when riding, Jackie O’s style on a horse has rekindled my awe of her chicness. These days, riding gear has gotten very technical and branded. I am constantly cutting off visible tags, blackening out logos with sharpies, and trying to find the most classic and pared down jackets, jodhpurs and boots while still keeping an eye towards practicality. Basically I just want wear everything Jackie is wearing in these pictures. I’d also like to ride like her, except for in the one picture when she’s catapulting over a fence sans horse.

I wouldn’t think to mix cream, camel, black and navy all together in one look, but Jackie makes it all work so well. One of my favourite things about all jodhpurs is how high waisted they are. Jackie photographed by Ron Galella, 1970.

I love this photo of Jackie because it shows the more casual side of being around horses, as if she has gone into the field to catch them for her children to ride, as we often do here on the farm.

For my 40th birthday Christopher had a tweed hacking jacket made for me. This was one of the pictures I showed to the tailor. I used a different tweed (mine was herringbone) but I love the high buttons, the rounded corner hem and the slight angle on the sleeve. Super chic.

So far I’ve kept my riding wardrobe very disciplined, sticking to black leather boots and a black velvet hat. But here I love Jackie’s brown and navy combo with the white gloves. And of course JFK Jr is the best accessory you could ever hope for.

Apparently Jackie was very upset when the media caught and printed this vulnerable moment of her riding while she was first lady. But I think this moment they captured makes her all the more relatable and human. Again loving the white gloves.

Reading the Times at the New Jersey Horse Show in 1970. I never wear sunglasses when I ride but I just might after seeing this. Love the black hat, black shades and black stock. I must remember to get a black stock. Or is it navy?

I got it now Amanda – I just didn’t scroll down enough. Thanks.
Hi Amanda – I really enjoy these blogs – I want to hunker down and dig in! My challenge – how to join your blog – I can’t seem to find a spot to do it.
I love Jackie O’s equestrian style – there’s a book in my collection called “The private passion of Jackie Kennedy Onassis” and it’s all about her life as an equestrienne (and it contains some really fantastic photos!) Love this post!
